A Lucky 15 bonus is the extra money a bookie puts on your bet when just 1 of your 4 picks wins, or when all 4 win. Bookies such as William Hill and Betfred only add extra for one winner or for all four. With two or three winners, you're paid at the normal odds. The extra for one winner is known as a consolation, and it's really just an improved price on the winning single.
What does the one-winner bonus pay?
When only 1 pick wins, only its single bet pays, and all the other bets lose. The consolation boosts that single to a bigger price. William Hill pays double the odds, which means a 4/1 winner gets paid out at 8/1. Betfred trebles the odds, turning that same 4/1 winner into 12/1.
A £1 Lucky 15 sets you back £15 in all, since it's made of 15 individual bets. Below are the payouts from that £15 with a single winner.
| Winner's price | Standard odds | William Hill (double) | Betfred (treble) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2/1 | £3 | £5 | £7 |
| 4/1 | £5 | £9 | £13 |
| 6/1 | £7 | £13 | £19 |
| 10/1 | £11 | £21 | £31 |
With the bonus included, a winner at short odds still returns less than the £15 you staked. You need a bigger price before the consolation covers your outlay.
Extra when all 4 win
William Hill and Betfred both top up your winnings by 10% if every pick wins. That 10% is calculated on the winnings alone, not on your stake, at both William Hill and Betfred.
Say you place a £1 Lucky 15 with winners at 5/1, 4/1, 3/1 and 2/1. That slip pays back £839.00 on a £15 stake, making the winnings £824.00, and the 10% bonus adds a further £82.40.
Each way Lucky 15s and the bonus
Each way means each pick gets two bets behind it, one for the win and one for a place finish. That doubles the slip to 30 bets, so £1 each way comes to £30 and 50p each way comes to £15.
The place side pays at a fraction of the price. With places at 1/4 of the price, a 4/1 pick pays at 1/1 on the place, so a £1 place bet pays back £2.00; with places at 1/5, a 5/1 pick pays 1/1 for the place as well.
Only the win half gets the consolation. William Hill puts it on the win part only, while Spreadex and Sporting Index apply the same rule to their double-odds deals. Take a single 4/1 winner at William Hill at £1 each way, with the other three unplaced: the win bet returns £5.00, the place bet £2.00, and doubling the odds adds a further £4.00, so you get £11.00 back from your £30.
Betfred counts both win and each way Lucky 15s towards its offers. At William Hill, if all four win at 5/1, 4/1, 3/1 and 2/1 on a £1 each way slip with places at 1/4 the odds, you'd get £905.03 back from £30. William Hill works out its all-winners bonus on the total winnings, win and place together. The 10% bonus on the £875.03 of winnings adds £87.50, so you'd get £992.53 in all.
Conditions you need to meet
To get the bonus, all four of your picks have to run. If one is pulled out, your £1 Lucky 15 still costs £15. You get £1 back from that pick's single bet, and the other bets go ahead without it. So the bet on all four becomes a bet on the remaining three. Betfred also insists on exactly 1 winner for its consolation, and William Hill does too.
William Hill has 2 further rules. Your bet has to be in level unit stakes, so the same amount on each of the 15 bets, while ante post prices are excluded. Ante post is an early price, usually taken days or weeks ahead, before the final list of runners is fixed.
At Betfred, free bet stakes are excluded from the bonus.
Other bookmakers' Lucky bonus rules
Midnite pays nothing extra for one winner or for four winners on Lucky 15s. Paddy Power limits Lucky 15, 31 and 63 bonus payments to £1,000 a day. bet365's Lucky bonuses leave out To Place bets, Not to Win bets and Tote and Colossus bets. At Coral, consolation rates can vary between shops.
